Tour of duty began on October, 13, 1969.
Died on February 27, 1970, as a result of enemy
action on 20 February in Khanh Hoa, South Vietnam when his
helicopter was struck by hostile fire and shot down.

Captain Richard (Dick) Bovio was a 26
year old married aviator from Galveston, Texas. Dick Bovio
joined the 281st AHC flight on October 13, 1969. On
February 20, 1970 he was flying a combat aviation support
mission near Khana Hoa, South Vietnam when the aircraft he
was flying was struck by hostile ground fire and he was
critically wounded. The Aircraft Commander maneuvered
the heavily damaged UH-1H helicopter into a landing
zone where
Capt. Bovio and the other
three crew members were rescued. Dick was rushed to
the evacuation hospital in Nha Trang where he died on the
27th of February. At the time of his Capt. Bovio had
been selected to become the Bandit Platoon Leader and was
flying with CPT Roger Green the outgoing Platoon Leader.
He was a highly respected member of the 281st AHC and shall
not be forgotten.
