483rd Transportation Detachment

TC

Part of the original 281st Aviation Company (AML) (-) Task Force formed at Fort Benning, Georgia in late 1965, the 483rd Transportation Corps Detachment was constituted in the Regular Army on 6 October 1965.  It deployed to the Republic of Vietnam with the 281st. The 483rd was a vital part of the organizational structure of the 281st from the beginning providing the next higher echelon of Aviation Maintenance support. While the 483rd was a separate entity with its own Command structure from the outset, it remained with the 281st and actually provided Commanders and First Sergeants to the 281st over the years. The unit was deactivated, its assets and personnel were absorbed by the 281st on 25 November 1968 at Nha Trang, RVN.  On 22 November 1970 the 483rd was activated again at Ft George W. Meade, Maryland. Its decorations are the Meritorious Unit Commendation, Streamer embroidered "Vietnam 1966-1967" and the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Streamer embroidered "Vietnam 1966-1967."
